The Georgia Peach Collection, 3 PSA Set Registry Sets

The Georgia Peach Collection offered up 3 spectacular PSA Set Registry sets that were each offered up as a set or single lots. Issued by the American Tobacco Company in 1910 and 1911, the Turkey Red series is widely considered the most beautiful sports set ever produced. The set consists of 100 baseball players, listed as T3's and broken into two series (#1-50 and #77-126) with 26 boxers, referred to as T9's, in between. Unlike tiny tobacco cards that were placed in cigarette packs, Turkey Red cards are 5 3/4" x 8" artistic masterpieces that were shipped from the company when 10 coupons from Turkey Red cigarettes or 25 coupons from Fez and Old Mill cigarettes were redeemed. This T3 set was ranked #3 of the PSA Set Registry and was sold as individual cards. Opportunities like this rarely come along, because a set such as this only exists amongst the world's greatest collections!

The next set offered in the Georgia Peach Collection is the 1911 T205 Gold Border Set, ranked as #3 on the PSA Set Registry at the time of consignment. Graced with legendary examples of Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, Tris Speaker, and Christy Mathewson but beset with condition-sensitivity and rare variations, even the most advanced collector approaches the 1911 T205 Gold border set with a sense of ambivalence. In addition to the more famous T206 White bordered set, the T205 release served as one of the few masterpieces to celebrate the era of early 20th century tobacco cards and did so in much grander style, adding a shimmering gold perimeter that, while alluring, also proved susceptible to damage and put high-grade specimens at a considerable premium. This set also sold as individual cards rather than as a complete set.

The final piece of this collection is the 1911 M116 Sporting Life Master Set, as the #2 All-Time Finest on PSA Set Registry with GPA of 6.387 at the time of consignment. The amount of time and effort invested into this project by our consignor is mind-boggling, resulting in one of the most impressive master sets ever assembled. This was truly a world-class offering and deserving of a spot in even the most advanced of trophy rooms. This is the only one of the sets that sold as a set and not as single cards.
