Mile High Card Company Closes September Auction With Record Prices for Sport and Non-Sport Cards and Unopened Boxes

Castle Rock, CO – It was one simply of the most impressive auctions in Mile High Card Company history. Led by an exceptionally high-end 1933 DeLong complete set and the stunning sequel to “The Beer Box Find,” Mile High Card Company’s September auction delivered many record shattering results and over 2.4 million in total sales. “You never know what items are really going to blow up in any given auction but we were really pleased by the wave of bidding that produced many astonishing results this time around” said MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent.

The individual cards from the 1933 Delong set received feverish bidding all throughout the day, closing at a total of $214,791 with #7 Lou Gehrig NM/MT ($64,670), #6 Cochrane PSA 8 NM/MT ($13,721), #15 Stephenson PSA 8 NM/MT ($24,691) #19 Hafey PSA 8 NM/MT ($24,331) and 24 Goslin PSA 8 NM/MT ($14,932) setting all-time price records. “Beer Box II” turned out to be every bit as impressive as advertised, and the famed “Beer Box Find” now stands at $1.49 million in total sales with the leading lots in the auction, a spectacular 1965 Topps Football Full Unopened Wax Box and 1965 Topps Football Nearly Full Unopened Wax Box (21/24), bringing in $147,567 and $107,476 respectively and a 1964 Topps Football Nearly Full Unopened Wax Box Six Cards Per Pack (23/24) closing at $49,394. Heavily leaning toward the non-sports collector, the find netted the following results: a 1964 Beatles Test Plaks Nearly Full Wax Box (26/36) that sold for $7,932, 1965 Topps Gilligan's Island Partial Unopened Wax Box (15/24) that brought in just over $14,000, 1969 Topps Wacky Ads Nearly Full Unopened Wax Box (21/24) with Scarce "Good and Empty" Showing at $17,877 and 1965 Scanlen’s Football Six-Pack Display Box Salesman’s Sample at $11,879. Other unopened items unrelated to the find were a 1980 Topps Baseball Unopened Rack Pack Case that sold for $8,398, 1981 Topps Football Unopened Rack Pack Case that changed hands for $7,633, 1984 Topps Football Unopened Wax Box Case at $18,810, the one and only PSA graded 1967 Leaf Star Trek Unopened Pack that went for $9,018 and a 1976 Star Trek Unopened Wax Box that sold for $11,165.

Other key pieces that returned incredible results were 1948-49 Leaf #8 Satchel Paige EX/NM that sold for $93,219, 1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson SGC 84 NM 7 for $15,462, 1921 E121 American Caramel Babe Ruth Series of 80 PSA 3.5 VG+ that closed at $20,725, 1952 Topps #407 Ed Mathews PSA 8 NM/MT that ended bidding at $39,121, 1966 Philadelphia #31 Dick Butkus PSA 9 MINT that sold for $37,807, 2000 SP Authentic #118 Tom Brady PSA 10 GEM MINT at $17,726, 1986-87 Fleer Basketball Unopened Wax Box that went for $57,182 and an extremely scarce 1968 Topps Test Basketball Unopened Pack that brought in for $16,901. Rare Sandy Koufax issues were one of the great stars of the event, with results that include a 1959 L.A. Dodgers #906 Sandy Koufax Postcard PSA 10 GEM MINT that went for $16,464, 1962 Exhibits Stat Back Sandy Koufax PSA 9 MINT at $6,625, 1963 Exhibits Stat Back Sandy Koufax PSA 9 MINT that sold for $2,999 and 1964 Tropicana Motel Postcard Sandy Koufax "Dodger Uniform" PSA 8 NM/MT that stole the show with a final bid of $13,033. A 1954 Topps #201 Al Kaline PSA 8 NM/MT broke the auction record with a winning bid of $6,767 and a 1973 Allied Printing Roberto Clemente Memorial Postcard PSA 10 GEM MINT also set a new record high with a bid of $4,833. Closing out the event was a 1971 Topps Baseball Nearly Full First Series Unopened Wax Box (23/24) that sold for $45,289 and an Exceptionally High-End Babe Ruth Single-Signed OAL (Barnard) Ball with 1927 Notation that closed at $19,251.
