This recently graded GEM is one of the nicest, sharpest cards 1956 Topps baseball cards I have ever seen! Many times with 1956 Topps team cards, the individual player faces appear very blurry. Similar to when bad guys are in trouble on the TV show COPS, and they didn't sign the release form, the producers washout their faces to prevent identity. There is no mistaking the identity on any of the players in this team photo. Roy Campanella in the front row, far right, sitting squarely like a good catcher would do. There is Duke Snider back row, fourth from the right, the number 4 clearly visible on his scripted Dodgers jersey. Three players to Snider's left is Jackie Robinson, standing with strength. With the way his body is turned, Jackie appears to be overseeing the entire Dodgers team, Walter Alston included. This card basically depicts the 1955 Dodgers team who were coming off Brooklyn's only World Championship, winning that stirring seven game series over the rival New York Yankees. As mentioned in the first line, this is one of the nicest 1956 Topps cards ever. Four equal width, pure white borders lead up, down and sideways towards four pin point perfect corners. Both the front and back are completely clean, free of any type of print defect or blemish, and both are perfectly centered. The obverse also has a smooth, glass-like sheet of uninterrupted gloss. There are card collectors who build the best conditioned sets, collect star player or team sets, and collectors who specialize in the Brooklyn Dodgers. And there are collectors who collect random pieces, but those pieces are the best of the best. This is that type of card. Breathtaking in every aspect and unimprovable.
