During his tenure in the major leagues, Babe Ruth was not only the greatest baseball player that ever lived but his charm and accessibility to his loyal fans also made him arguably the greatest personality of the 20th century. Always willing to autograph a photo or baseball for a kid who dreamed of being the next Ruth, Babe understood the power he possessed at bringing cheer to the world just as easily with the mere stroke of a pen as the stroke of a bat. Single-signed Babe Ruth balls like the OAL (Harridge) sphere offered here would be plentiful had the Babe lived to a ripe old age, but his passing in 1948 at the age of just 53 left the supply of such keepsakes woefully short of the demand. The featured ball displays a reasonably bold penning of Ruth in the center of the sweet spot. Some areas of fading are present but the autograph is well above average and the ball is from the 1947-48 time period, meaning it was signed in the twilight moments of Babe's legendary life. A wonderful piece of baseball history, authenticated with an LOA from both PSA/DNA and JSA.
