Here is a beautifully centered, high-grade example of Walter Johnson's T206 "Portrait" variation with a Sweet Caporal back that has been graded PSA 7. One of the most admired pasteboards by vintage collectors, this specimen offers a precise depiction of Johnson's fiery orange hair that contrasts sharply with his pale, slate eyes, exuding an innocence so common of legends before their years of dominance. The T206 is also considered Johnson's rookie issue, sharing this distinction with the T204 Ramly issue of the same year, and predated only by postcard issues from Novelty Cutlery and The Rose Company. Johnson is, of course, one of the "Five Immortals" elected into the Hall of Fame in its inaugural class of 1936 with Cobb, Ruth, Wagner, and Mathewson. In addition to the mesmerizing surface, the perimeter easily meets PSA 7 standards and the reverse is strong with no noticeable hindrances. A spectacular example that no advanced collection is complete without.
