With the exception of maybe Babe Ruth, Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain was the most dominant athlete in American sports history. Sure, Wilt was bigger and stronger than anyone he came up against, and the rules at the time heavily favored skilled post players, but you still have to go out there every day and get the job done. Quite simply, the body of work that Chamberlain put together will never be matched. He averaged over 50 points and 25 rebounds per game in 1961. Averaged! But just as incredible is that he also played 48.5 minutes per game that year. Yeah, a game is only 48 minutes, but Wilt played virtually every minute of every game, and then add in the minutes he played when the game went into overtime. He literally almost never came off the court! Even in his last season, at the age of 36, he was still playing over 43 minutes per game; the league-leader last year average 37.5 minutes. Wilt topped 33 PPG seven times and 24 RPG six times. He scored 100 points in a game. He gathered up 55 rebounds in a game. Chamberlain still holds 72 NBA records, 68 by himself. Offered here is one of the truly iconic pasteboards ever printed of any player in any sport; the 1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain rookie card. Graded PSA 8, the card shows just a slight lean toward the right edge but qualifies as very accurate since the large majority of examples are woefully askew. The colors are undeniably pack-fresh, with overwhelming red and magenta pigments making the white border seem even more luminous, and the rough-cut lining the vertical edges adds to the allure of an already legendary piece. Each corner proudly upholds the standards of the NM/MT grade. The reverse is slightly toned and every bit as well-framed as the front. Fresh out of PSA grading, this amazing piece is the cornerstone of any advanced basketball card collection!
