It's only happened a few times over the past century: an athlete comes along and so dominates the sport in which he specializes that record books are drastically rewritten and league officials have to consider rule changes to compensate. Babe Ruth and Wilt Chamberlain were such men, as so was "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky. When Phil Esposito tallied an incredible 76 goals and 76 assists in 1970, it was considered the greatest achievement in NHL history. For Wayne Gretzky, that's a down year. Offered is without question one of the quintessential cards of the last fifty years (and not just for hockey but all sports). Solidly centered for the issue with a deep azure blue background surrounding the then eighteen-year-old phenom and future savior of his sport as he easily glides up the ice to start another shift of "greatness". Each of the four corners easily passes the NM/MT test and the very heavy rough cut on all edges is an alluring reminder of O-Pee-Chee's unique cutting methods. A sharp, well-focused image is present while the reverse is problem-free and completes the deal. A stunning card that is offered at the top end of the NM/MT 8 grade.
