One of the biggest hypothetical questions in all of baseball is where Hall of Fame hurler Satchel Paige would rank among other baseball immortals had he been allowed to play his entire career at the major league level. Jackie Robinson's introduction allowed Paige to finally face Ted Williams and company in 1948 at the age of 41. Even in his twilight, Paige still posted a 6-1 record, 2.48 ERA, and three shutouts over 7 starts. A tough card to find in any condition, this example of Satchel Paige's 1948 Leaf "rookie card" possesses solid centering and a boldness almost as intense as the player's flamboyant personality. Some scattered stray print and a few shallow creases limit the overall assessment to PSA 1.5, but the grade seems a bit harsh considering the overall eye appeal of the card and the lack of any missing paper. A wonderful example of the triumph and tragedy of one of the greatest players ever to step onto a pitcher's mound.
