Arguably the most important post-war rookie card that isn't the primary card of its series, the 1951 Bowman debut example of Hall of Famer Willie Mays is an absolute necessity for any advanced collector boasting a world-class collection. Not only did Mays notch a .302 career batting average and 660 home runs to go along with 12 Gold Glove awards but served his country with honor during World War II and won the NL batting title, NL MVP award, and lead his team to a World Series Championship immediately upon his return. The offered card is graded PSA 5, noticeably shifted toward the upper-left horizontal edge as are many mid-grade specimens from the condition-sensitive series. The slightly above-grade perimeter counteracts the centering variance with a very pleasing presentation on the reverse. A highly presentable mid-grade specimen of one of Bowman's most celebrated issues.
