Building a 1952 Topps set, even in modest grade, is a daunting task that many collectors spend a lifetime to achieve. The 407-card inaugural issue was a ground-breaking achievement as it was the first to employ “jumbo-sized” cards (2-5/8" by 3-3/4"), the first to incorporate colored team logos in the card design, and the first to display complete statistics for the previous year as well as the player's lifetime. The featured 1952 Topps collection is complete with some graded cards, led of course by #311 Mickey Mantle, modestly graded SGC 20 FAIR 1.5 and presents well for the assessment and a well-centered 261 Mays that looks almost VG/EX but has a crease that makes it GOOD+. Other PSA graded cards include #37 Snider PSA 3, 314 Campanella PSA 4, 357 Burgess PSA 4, 361 Posedel PSA 4, 369 Groat PSA 4, 372 McDougald PSA 4, 380 Koshorek PSA 4, 396 D. Williams PSA 4, 405 Pellagrini PSA 4, and 407 Mathews PSA 2.5. Five cards are graded by GAI: #274 Branca GAI 5, 295 Cavarretta GAI 4, 302 Surkont GAI 5, 304 Dente GAI 4.5, and 308 Aloma GAI 4. Card #329 Delock is graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4. The ungraded portion of #1-310 is 15% EX or better, 25% VG/EX, 40% VG, and 20% lower with #1 Pafko POOR (autographed), 11 Rizzuto FAIR, 26 Irvin VG/EX, 33 Spahn VG (MC), 59 Roberts VG+, 88 Feller GOOD, 175 B. Martin EX+ (OC), 191 Berra EX (MC), and 216 Ashburn EX (OC). The high-number series is 15% VG/EX or better, 40% VG, 30% VG, and 15% lower with Z#312 J. Robinson POOR, 313 Thomson VG, 321 Black GOOD+, 333 Reese VG, 392 Wilhelm VG (looks EX+with crease), and 400 Dickey VG+.
