Without a mainstream basketball series since the 1981-82 Topps set, Fleer had the benefit of hindsight by spotlight "rookie cards" of players that had already become established superstars but were making their first nationwide appearance on a basketball card. Fleer doubled down by creating an 11-card sticker insert that featured many of the same players. And if you thought the famed Michael Jordan rookie card was difficult to find centered (and of course it is), the companion 1986 Fleer sticker is even more condition-sensitive with a "double-whammy"; it's more centering-challenged that the main rookie card and because it was inserted as the last card just inside where the pack is sealed, it's often the victim of heavy wax stains on the front or reverse. The featured sticker has managed to sidestep both of those booby-traps, delivered a clean and sharp image free of the invasion of wax on either surface and centered within a degree or two both top to bottom and side to side. Of course, the corners and edges have to be equally pristine and this one comes through with flying colors, displaying a perimeter that meets the stringent MINT specifications and offers plenty of evidence to suggest that a GEM MINT assessment was in play. As the mainstream rookie card approaches the six-figure barrier in MINT condition with no end in sight, and might even be there by the time you read this, it would be smart to turn to this sticker insert as the number of MINT examples of his main card is 50% higher than that of MINT examples of the sticker.
