It should come as no surprise that following the record-setting heroics accomplished by Yankees slugger Roger Maris in 1961, the astute marketers at Topps had an easy choice when selecting the initial card of the '62 issue. Long considered one of the most important and difficult cards of the '60s, the delicate wood-grain borders make acquiring a high-grade '62 Maris example a daunting task. Indeed, only 7 examples have surpassed the NM/MT 8 graded given this specimen by PSA. There's inevitably going to be some microscopic chipping at the endpoints, but this example holds that liability to a minimum, and combined with clean surfaces and expert centering, easily earns the PSA 8 grade. Start your high-grade set off right!
