Playing alongside fellow Hall of Famer Satchel Paige, Hilton Smith spent 13 seasons in the Negro League and was often utilized is a complement to the great Paige, with Satchel tossing the first three innings and Smith coming in to take over for the final six. Though statistics weren't accurately compiled from game to game, Hilton Smith is credited with an overall win percentage of about 70% with a career ERA of approximately 1.68, tossing a no-hitter in 1937 against the Chicago American Giants, and was also a .320 lifetime hitter. Every once in a while, a cut signature or index card comes around for sale, but featured here is one of the finest single-signed baseball in existence. A scan of this exact ball can be found on the PSA website, a creamy-white Spalding sphere with a bold, solid sweet-spot signature of Smith, perfectly placed between the stitches that displays the same kind of pinpoint accuracy that Smith exhibited with his blazing fastball and sweeping curve. One of the most elusive Negro League legends. LOA from PSA/DNA.
