Featured is an extraordinary advertising piece featuring without question the two preeminent ballplayers of the time, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. It should be noted that the featured keepsake is amongst just a handful of examples of this fragile collectible that we have ever encountered. The offered flyer was designed to be given to retailers to encourage them to order Colgan's products, with which they would receive one of two displays designed to promote the product. A "Counter Jumper" was a display rack designed to hold twenty round tins of gum, available in colorful green and purple varieties. A "Window Display" was a triangular display designed with a picture of a man or woman (sometimes a generic person, sometimes a notable ball player) chewing Colgan's Gum. The flyer features large displays of Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner in the top left and bottom right corners as well as smaller "card" images of Frank Chance and Hal Chase in the top right and bottom left corners. E254 Colgan's Chips are far rarer than most tobacco cards of the era, are one of the most interesting sets ever produced, and are one of the most overlooked of all vintage sets. Original advertising material relating to 1910-era card sets is also exceptionally rare. This is a tremendously attractive piece, notably highlighted by legendary Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner, that would be an extremely significant addition to any world-class E254, advertising, or prewar-card collection. The condition is excellent with a NM or better appearance save for the mild fold line through the middle, the item also comes with the apparent original envelope with a 1911 postmark date.
