Having a reputation for being a hard-nosed son of a gun who often bent the rules and played with a less than gentlemanly style, Ty Cobb's persona was the polar opposite of Babe Ruth, a jovial man-child beloved by adults and children alike. But many of the dubious anecdotes attributed to Cobb, especially off the field, are more folklore than fact. After the conclusion of his career, many fans who panned "The Georgia Peach" later claimed that he was not only pleasant and cordial but very accommodating when it came to granting the request of an autograph for a fan. The featured baseball was signed by Cobb and dated 8/27/49, just over 20 years past Cobb's retirement. The blue ink signature shows considerable fading but is still completely legible, both in name and date, and is placed gently on a side panel. LOA from PSA/DNA.
