Offered is easily one of the more obscure as well was important cards issued of slugger Mickey Mantle during the decade of the 1950's. In an effort to publicize the Home Run Derby show, a 20-card set was produced, likely by American Motors. The set consists of each of the nineteen players who appeared on the show, along with the host, Mark Scott. The 1959 Home Run Derby set is commonly referred to as a ‘59 release (the show was filmed in December of ’59), but it was likely produced and distributed in early 1960. The featured card of Mantle seems far more in line with an EX/MT 6 assessment than the opined EX 5 grade. Exceptionally well centered with four upper end corners that retain a freshness not usually encountered within the grade.
