With baseball equipment under one arm and a new contract in hand, a smiling Mickey Mantle is ready to earn his new increased paycheck on this 9 1/4" x 7" original black and white type I photo. Just 24 years old when this photo was snapped on 1/24/56, according to the original wire service caption on the reverse, Mantle had just secured a salary of $32,000 a year, a sizable raise from the previous season's $25,000. Once his Triple Crown season climaxed with a revenge World Series victory over the Dodgers, his salary justifiably jumped to $60,000 the next year. Authenticated and slabbed by PSA/DNA, the photo shows some light wear and surface blemishes but projects at almost a NM level. One of the most alluring Mantle photos ever from his playing days.
