Long before Jackie Robinson broke through the color barrier in Major League Baseball, Jack Johnson, known as the Galveston Giant, was pivotal in the integration of professional boxing, becoming the first African-American heavyweight champion in 1908. He is featured here on an attractive example from the 1911 T9 Turkey Red boxing release, and oversized cabinet issue more closely resembling a small work of art than a traditional trading card. Graded VG+ 3.5 by PSA, this one shows the expected corner wear but retains vivid, lifelike colors and a cleaner than usual reverse, showing some stray printer's ink but very little in the way of age toning.
