Graded NM/MT 8 by PSA. "The Big Apple" fielded three great baseball teams in the 1950s, each touting their star centerfielder as among baseball's best. While Willie and Mickey were accumulating Hall of Fame credentials for their loyal fans in Manhattan and the Bronx respectively, the borough of Brooklyn proudly trotted out an icon of their own, Edwin "Duke" Snider. With 5 consecutive 40+ home run seasons and World Championships in 1955 and 1959, the fan frenzy for Snider was comparable to that of the great Mays and Mantle. Included in the ultra-tough mid-series issue from the 1953 Bowman Color set, Snider smiles as if to challenge all pitchers with his icy, confident stare. Suitably centered while slightly favoring the northeast corner, the surface is layered with a heavy blanket of like-new gloss. Each of the four corners easily meets or exceeds the NM/MT designation. One of the most significant cards from the 1950s and an important cornerstone to an advanced assemblage! A terrific card to add to your high grade set!
