What has turned out to be the perfect way to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of baseball and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame, the 1939 Play Ball set filled the gap as the first mainstream baseball card collection since Goudey. Showcasing actual photos in crisp, clear photography and detailed player bios, the 1939 Play Ball series set the standard for future cards until the 1952 Topps series. The 162-card set contains 18 Hall of Famers, led by Joe DiMaggio, Mel Ott, and of course, "The Splendid Splinter's" rookie card. Needing just card #146 for completion, the featured set is a truly magnificent assemblage that ranks #6 on the Current Finest list of the PSA Set Registry with an overall 7.36 GPA.
