As was the case in 1959, 1960, and 1962, Topps created a parallel set in 1964 exclusively for sale in Venezuela. Like its predecessors, the 1964 Venezuelan Topps set very much matched the appearance of the American edition with two distinct differences: a lack of gloss on the surface that gave the cards a flatter, slightly darker look, and the color on the reverse, changed from orange to black. The Venezuelan version matches its American counterpart by card number but limits the number of subjects to just the first 370 cards, allowing for the inclusion of such greats as Mantle, Banks, Rose, Mays, Koufax, Yastrzemski, Maris, and Aaron, but leaves out Clemente, which is card #440 in the Topps set. The featured set is an amazing compilation of all but 14 cards in the South American collection, ranked #4 on the PSA Set Registry at an overall set rating of 2.599. That may not sound impressive but it is with the Venezuelan custom of gluing the cards into albums having left the large majority of existing cards in low grade with considerable back damage. Leading the collection is #50 Mantle, one of 12 on record with a grade of PSA 2, and three cards stand out as true "one of one" pieces with none graded higher: #21 Berra PSA 6.5, 113 PSA 6, and 127 PSA 4.5. Other key cards, #55 Banks, 125 Rose, 150 Mays, 200 Koufax, 225 Maris, 300 Aaron, and 331 A. L. Bombers, are all graded PSA 2. Needed for completion is #1, 3, 7, 8, 132, 136, 192, 203, 210 Yastrzemski, 290, 317, 318, 359, and 360. Only three other collections on the PSA Set Registry can match the level of completeness that this set offers.
