In one of the most disputed presidential elections in American history, Samuel Tilden bested Rutherford B. Hayes in the popular vote and had 184 electoral votes to Hayes' 165, with 20 electoral votes in dispute. The disputed electoral votes all ended up in the Hayes column after a bitter legal and political battle, giving him a 185-184 victory. The featured ticket admitted the holder into the U. S. House of Representatives to take part in the nationwide recount, an event that probably had more drama than the history books can tell. A wonderful and important piece of Americana. PSA authenticated.
