If you were a kid growing up in New York City in 1960 and stumbled upon this cello pack at your local five and dime, it would be like hitting the lottery ... if you had the cash to snap it up! It's not often that the hero of the Bronx baseball sits atop the pack, guaranteeing that a sharp, colorful Mickey Mantle card is ripe for the picking. Yankees fans needed something to lift their spirits at the time, limping home with an unacceptable 79-75 season in 1959 after spending the entire season at or below the .500 mark. As usual, Mantle did his part in leading the Yankees with 31 homers, 75 RBI and 21 stolen bases, but several other hitters as well as the heralded New York pitching staff had down years. It was the lowest winning percentage and highest ERA of his career to date. But a new season brought with it an opportunity to get back on top, and a sealed 1960 Topps baseball cello pack with Mickey Mantle showing was a good way to get the season off to a strong start. Graded PSA 5, the cards inside retain plenty of color with ably strong corners and edges (if Mantle's pasteboard is any indication). And the likelihood of coming across another example with Mantle on top is pretty remote.
