In an attempt to keep collectors interested during the waning weeks of the season, Topps loaded up their high-number series with Yankees and Dodgers, many of which were future Hall of Famers, and key rookies that posted notable debut seasons. While the strategy failed, resulting in cases of cards finding a watery grave, the surviving specimens are among the most coveted pasteboards in the hobby. Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese is one of the cards in the final series and the offered specimen is a true marvel that has earned the grade of PSA 9, one of only 5 to earn such a designation with just a single example graded higher. The huge majority of cards from this series are woefully off-center and this beauty of Reese does exhibit a benign centering preference toward the right edge, but it's within the specifications outlined by PSA and negligible when you consider the almost flawless depiction of Reese, with corners that border on GEM MINT status. Undoubtedly a world-class card that any set-builder with a top-ranked set should pay close attention to.
