Part of the allure surrounding the 1952 Topps set, aside from it being the inaugural issue, are the set's "subplots." The black and red backs of the first series, the "error bios" of Page and Sain, and the elusive high-numbers that include Mantle, Robinson, Campanella and the rookie card of Eddie Mathews are certainly enough to give this collection a distinct character that attracts virtually all vintage collectors. But as it turns out, some otherwise nondescript cards move to the forefront for advanced collectors due to their extreme difficulty to find in high grade. Leading that charge is the the final card in the first series, #80 Wehmeier. Generally considered the most elusive PSA 8 common in Topps' inaugural set, the 1952 Topps card of Herman Wehmeier is so difficult to find at the NM/MT level that even PSA acknowledges it in their SMR report, valuing a PSA 8 specimen at over six times the listing of a PSA 7 card. With just 13 others graded PSA 8, the winning bidder of this well-presented beauty can finally land the "white whale" they've been chasing for years. Overall NM/MT corners, an abundance of background color and a well-printed reverse should convince you as to the legitimacy this card brings, totally deserving of PSA's rare assessment. You've waited long enough for the opportunity to finally land this one, so do it!
