Graded MINT 9 by PSA. A true White Whale if ever there was one! The featured card is in the opinion of this auctioneer the single best card in MINT 9 condition from any mainstream Topps release aside from variation in the entire decade of the 1960's! Following the record-setting heroics accomplished by Yankees slugger Roger Maris in 1961, the astute marketers at Topps had an easy choice when selecting the initial card of the '62 issue. Long considered one of the most important and difficult cards of the '60s, the delicate wood-grain borders make acquiring a high-grade '62 Maris example a daunting task. The offered example hails as 1 of just 5 copies of this card that have been graded MINT 9 by PSA with none having been graded at a higher level. Centered to near perfection with an abundance of scintillating gloss that covers a perfect palate with nary an imperfection to be encountered. Each of the four corners project at the very top end of the opined grade and come within an eyelash of a GEM MINT status as do the fragile edges of the wood grained border that are of a chip free appearance. The print quality is second to none with a blemish free appearance in terms of printers snow. The Yankee home flannel adorns the muscled bicep of the famed slugger while the flesh tones of the Rajah's face give immeasurable depth to the image. A splendidly printed and preserved reverse completes the breathtaking example set forth that is correctly and offered in high end MINT condition!
