In the 1964 NFL Draft, the first quarterback selected was USC's Pete Beathard at pick #5, followed by Utah State's Bill Munson with pick #7. George Mira, Jack Concannon, Henry Schichtle, Dick Shiner, Gary Wood, and Larry Rakestraw were the next quarterbacks to go, in order, until the Dallas Cowboys used their 10th round pick, #129 overall, to select Navy QB Roger Staubach. Required to complete his military obligation, it would be 5 years before Staubach has the opportunity to suit up for the Cowboys as a 27 year old rookie. But after a 12-year Hall of Fame career where Staubach compiled an 85-29 record (2nd highest winning percentage of all-time), six Pro-Bowl appearances, five NFC Championships and two Super Bowl titles, it appears he was well worth the wait. Presented is one of the most prestigious specimens of the last 50 years, a phenomenal GEM MINT example of Roger Staubach's highly coveted rookie card. Within the lustrous white border, virtually identical in width on all four sides, lies a bold rose pink frame that surrounds the precise image of the legendary Dallas signal-caller, confidently posing as if his storied career was already laid out for him. Smooth, unadulterated edges meet at perfect points, giving a visual representation of PSA's description for the qualifications of GEM MINT, while the reverse projects the intense green and blue ink that makes Staubach's bio and statistics an effortless joy to read. Only one other exists at PSA's ultimate level, making this an offering of one the most prized masterpieces in the football card collecting universe!
