One glance at Mickey Mantle's 1951 Bowman rookie card creates a feeling of excitement that overwhelms both the beginner and expert collector alike. The horizontal image of the baby-faced kid from Oklahoma, which was obviously taken during spring training, has become an American symbol almost as well recognized as his iconic 1952 Topps portrait. While the surface of the offered specimen has some stray print, primarily on Mickey's left shoulder, the central image boasts a stunning, sharply printed likeness that is highlighted by deep, bold colors. The centering lightly favors the northwest horizontal corner, while each of the four corners show moderate wear indicative of the grade. The reverse is a striking contrast of the deeply blue inked bio set against the stark gray stock. A strong EX/MT example of this exceptionally popular rookie card of hobby icon Mickey Mantle.
