The infamous first series of the 1962 Topps baseball issue is one of the most challenging and power-packed series ever printed by the legendary baseball card manufacturer. Roger Maris, the new single-season home run king, kicks off the series in the #1 poll position and is followed by Sandy Koufax at #5, who had yet to attain superstar status, and Roberto Clemente at #10. High-grade sales of these big three are always big news, considering how few high-grade examples actually exist (there are just 5, 9, and 17 of each in the MINT 9 tier at PSA, respectively). Other stars from the '62 Topps first series that hardly exist in MINT condition include Eddie Mathews, Rocky Colavito, Minnie Minoso, and Casey Stengel, but perhaps the most elusive of them all is Brooks Robinson. Proudly offered here is 1 of just 5 examples to ever attain MINT 9 status at PSA, a noticeably clean example for the issue with a sharp MINT perimeter and centering that just makes the cut for MINT. Available on the open market for the first time in several years, who knows when, indeed if, another copy will ever become available.
