The last of the great pre-war issues, the 1941 Play Ball set is one of the most aesthetically pleasing of the era, with art-deco backgrounds dominating the pasteboard and multiple hues of pastels commanding the viewer’s attention. A pleasing blue-green frame separates the image from the white borders, and a simple nameplate trumpets the player’s name-and nickname, when appropriate-to the sports card enthusiast. The offered group consists of 18 cards from that set, all professionally graded by PSA, making the beginnings of a starter set for an upstart or seasoned collector.
