The last of the great pre-war issues, the 1941 Play Ball set is one of the most aesthetically pleasing of the era, with art-deco backgrounds dominating the pasteboard and multiple hues of pastels commanding the viewer’s attention. A pleasing blue-green frame separates the image from the white borders, and a simple nameplate trumpets the player’s name-and nickname, when appropriate-to the sports card enthusiast. The offered group consists of 18 cards from that set, all professionally graded by PSA, making the beginnings of a starter set for an upstart or seasoned collector. Included are: PSA 6 EX/MT: 11, 23, 37, 68; PSA 5.5 EX+: 28; PSA 5 EX: 4, 46, 62, 66; PSA 4.5 VG/EX+: 32; PSA 4 VG/EX: 1, 5, 25, 29, 42, 47, 48, 65.
