Presented is an opportunity of a magnitude and kind that has been heretofore unimaginable in the sports collectibles industry- here for the first time ever at public auction the All Time #1 Finest 1936-37 O-Pee-Chee Series D Complete set will be offered as both a complete set as well as singles and the final winners will be determined be the highest aggregate bids. The 1936 OPC Series D cards carry a certain mystique within the marketplace, what with their die cut persona as well as the imaged player posed in front of a nearly silhouetted background of "old time hockey" from what appears as a scene from a bygone generation. The 1930's as a decade was a tumultuous decade for the issuance of gum cards both in the United States as well as in Canada. With a poor economy following the stock market crash of '29 as well as the transgressions of war in Europe, gum cards were in most cases the last items to be taken seriously. The featured issue somehow overstepped those boundaries and forged against the times with a startling product the likes of which hadn't been seen for ice hockey cards. The pasteboards measure a stout 2 3/8" x 2 15/16" and are printed on a rigid thick stock that features the aforementioned die cut process very similar to the 1934-36 Batter Up Baseball release. The cards are often hindered by creasing as well as a loss of the reverse bio area due to cards having been folded into the die cut position, neither of which affects any of the subjects found in this immeasurable offering. Without question the featured collection of 1936-37 OPC Series D is the most valuable and scarce of all of the 1930's OPC sets. A list of the subjects as well as the corresponding grades includes the following. PSA 8.5 NM/MT+: #'s 98 Schriner (R) HOF, 102 L. Conacher (HOF), 113, 114, 125 Clancy (HOF), 127, 129 Joliet (HOF), 131 PSA 8 NM/MT: #'s 97 Broda (R) (HOF), 99, 100, 105 Colville (R) (HOF), 108, 110, 116, 119, 122 Horner (HOF), 123 C. Conacher (HOF), 128 Patrick (HOF), 130, 132 Smith (HOF) PSA 7.5 NM+: #124 Jackson (HOF) PSA 7 NM: #101 Apps (R) (HOF) PSA 6.5 EX/MT+: 103, 104, 106, 109 Shibicky (R), 117 Goodfellow (HOF), 118 Shore (HOF), 121 Morenz (HOF), PSA 6 EX/MT: 107, 111, 112, 126, PSA 5 EX: 115 PSA 2 GD: 120. A brief perusal of the PSA "Pop Report" reveals that many of the subjects contained within this terrific offering are true 1/1's with none graded higher including the outrageously rare #97 (first card in the set) rookie card of Turk Broda. It should also be noted that many of the cards that haven't been graded NM/MT 8 or better by the stingy grading staff at PSA display at a level far superior to their technical assessment. A tremendous opportunity that can not be overstated to acquire one of-if not the-finest assortment of pre-war hockey known in the hobby. Please note the offered set will be sold to the highest aggregate bidder(s) of either the singles or the complete set and this will be updated immediately on the website.
