Huh? Well, that would have been part of a long line of Stengelese, aka Casey's apparently stream-of-consciousness monologues on all facets of baseball history and tactics, or anything else that took his fancy. The elongated check is drawn upon the familiar Valley National Bank of Glendale, CA with the pre-printed name and address at the top. Dated April 29, 1971, the check is made out to "Wm. Gehring N.Y. Times" and for the amount of $10.50. It is beautifully signed in black ink "Charles D. Stengel." The check has the usual PAID stamp on the front, and various bank stamps on the verso. None of these affect the awesome signature. There is also a vertical crease down the middle, mentioned for the sake of accuracy which does not alter the signature or beauty of this item. Certified and signature graded by PSA/DNA MINT 9. One of the nicest Stengel checks you can find.
