Considered one of the greatest players of all time, Bill Terry was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. In 1999, he ranked number 59 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players, and was a nominee for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. He is the last National League player to hit .400 for a season, with an average of .401 in 1930. After his playing and managing career, Terry settled in Jacksonville, FL, eventually buying the Double A Jacksonville Braves, the account from which this check is cut. The elongated check is drawn upon the Barnett National Bank, Jacksonville, FL with the pre-printed name "Jacksonville Baseball Company" at the top. Dated May 30, 1958, the check is made out to "Walter O'Neil" for the amount of $144.76. It is beautifully signed in black ink "Bill Terry," along with another signature. The check has the usual puncture cancellation stamp on the front, and various bank stamps on the verso. None of these affect the signature. There is also three vertical creases, one of which splits the signature. Certified and signature graded by PSA/DNA MINT 9. A great signature by a Hall of Fame player, cut on a check of the team which he owned.
