Here's a timeless classic that will always deserve a spot in any great collection. Up for auction is a high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's 1953 Topps short-printed second year issue. A slight but insignificant centering preference for the west joins mild touches to each corner, with color chipping and enamel loss commensurate with a NM to NM+ issue. The surface, however, appears unquestionably strong enough to be called NM/MT, particularly clean and boasting a tremendously well-registered image, with accurate skin tones and precise blue pigment on the legendary Yankee cap. This beauty may not qualify for a half-grade bump, but given the disparity in book value, it's certainly worth a shot.
