In 1953-1954, Topps issued a 180-card set called World on Wheels. The series was originally produced as a 160-card set in 1953, then reissued later as an 180-card set to include new models. The 20 cards numbered 161-180 are quite rare, and cards 171-180 are found with either red or blue backs. Packaging shows a set title of merely "Wheels" but the "World on Wheels" name caught on, based on the card markings. The set included a fairly eclectic mix of vehicles, including passenger cars, sports cars, race cars, buses, commercial vehicles, and military vehicles. Many are futuristic looking vehicles. This group is a high grade collection of mostly lower number cards with one high number example, #178 (blue back). Includes: PSA MINT 9 (8 cards): #12, 47, 54, 101, 105, 152, 166 and 167; PSA NM-MT 8 (67 cards): #1, 25, 49, 67, 70, 72, 77, 81, 86, 90, 91, 92, 95, 96, 99, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 139, 141, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 149, 151, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 160 and 178. In addition to card #178, the final card in the lower series, #160, also commands a premium value. Use this group as the beginning of a great PSA registry set or upgrade your current set!
