One of the rarest of all early 1950's regional sets, these cards were issued with Stahl-Meyer brand hot dogs, one card per package, and were only available in the New York area. This is the second year of issuance, the company having issued a set in 1953. Featuring stars from the three New York teams, the cards were issued with rounded corners, so the "corners" would not puncture the packaging. The cards contain a heavy wax coating to protect the cards from being ruined by the hot dogs with which they were packaged. These cards are extremely rare, and most known examples are in lower grade. In fact, there are only 30 examples graded by PSA with the highest grade given an EX 5. This example of Gil Hodges is, of course, low grade, assigned a FAIR 1.5, with multiple creases (none of which traverse the subject) and the typical staining. However, this is the highest of the four Hodges examples sent in to PSA. A great card for the Dodgers or Type collector.
