Exactly why the Goudey Gum Company chose to produce two virtually identical pasteboards depicting the “Iron Horse” as inclusions in its inaugural baseball issue remains a mystery, but one thing remains certain: card #160 has seen far fewer submissions than its #92 counterpart (495 compared to 852). Offered here is a solid example of card 160 that has been graded VG/EX 4 by PSA, but offers tremendous visual appeal due to excellent focus and registration and a well-printed color schematic that accentuates the flesh tones in Lou’s face. Moderate indications of corner wear along with a mild wrinkle visible primarily from the reverse are the bases for the assigned technical grade.
