A nice starter group of 7 SGC graded cards from the 1953 Glendale Meat set. This issue is one of the more popular "Regional" sets produced during the 1950's, most of which were food issues. Distributed in packages of the Michigan based Glendale hot dogs, the complete set consists of 28 cards of Detroit Tiger ballplayers. Because the cards were available only in the packages of processed meats, the cards are replete with stains and other flaws, and are extremely rare in high grades. While the cards were not produced in tremendous quantity, another reason for the general scarcity is the cards had a prize redeem offer on the reverse. If you collected all your Glendale Mets card and sent them all in at one time, the two people who sent in the most cards won a trip to the upcoming World Series. Now that is a meaty treat! It can only be assumed that the redeemed cards were discarded. While this lot is not prime in condition, the seven examples do represent a full 25% of the total complete set. Includes: Johnny Bucha (SGC 40 VG), Jim Delsing (SGC 30 GOOD), Ray Herbert (SGC AUTHENTIC), Bob Nieman (SGC 10 POOR), Jerry Priddy (SGC 40 VG), Steve Souchock (SGC 30 GOOD) and Bill Wight (SGC 10 POOR). The two cards graded POOR display better but were downgraded due to staple holes. A very difficult group of "Regionals" comprsiing 25% of this popular but severely under-supplied set.
