Hall of Famer Raymond Berry’s rookie card has seen a recent surge in popularity, especially in high-grade. The presented specimen from the ’57 Topps football set bears the grade of NM/MT 8 as assessed by PSA, and one has to wonder what is preventing at least a half-point bump. The image is centered to near-perfection, supported by stark-white borders and covered with an ample dosage of factory gloss. Perhaps a very light touch to the upper right, when viewed horizontally, scared the graders enough to back away from a higher assessment. This one falls within the top 9% of all similar submissions, and only 2 other copies have ever graded higher, according to the PSA pop report.
