After playing with the White Sox in 1910, Arnold "Chick" Gandil was sent to Montreal of the International League for a season, only to return to the United States in 1912, setting up a future date with destiny for his role in the 1919 "Black Sox" scandal. Featured here on this rare, Canadian issued 1912 C46 Imperial Tobacco card, graded SGC 60 EX 5, Gandil is pictured in his Montreal uniform. While each corner exhibits moderate wear and apparent chipping characteristic of the highly vulnerable brown borders, the intricate design of the wood-grain backdrop and photographic detail given the fresh-faced Gandil exudes an overall allure that rates way above the SGC 60 assessment. Since C46 issues are far scarcer than just about any other tobacco issue, why would you possibly pass this up?
