Graded MINT 96(9) by SGC. One of just two subjects graded by SGC at this lofty tier! A recently graded example of this stalwart pasteboard of the incomparable Roberto Clemente. Issued as the very first three dimensional cards of there kind by Topps a full two years ahead of Kelloggs, the featured collectible is amongst the scarcest of Topps test issues and the card of Clemente is without a doubt one of our hobbies elite single cards. Topps created the 3D cards through a lenticular process where they simulated a three dimensional effect through a purposely blurred background, in front of which is a sharp color player photograph. The outer layer is a thin coating of ribbed plastic This special process gives the picture the illusion of depth when the card is moved or tilted. These test issued cards had an exceptionally small area of distribution most likely just around the Brooklyn, NY area. Presented is without question one of the finest known specimens that offers a perfectly centered subject with absolutely no cracking to the extremely fragile plastic surface. The color of Clemente's photograph is tremendous and offers a glimpse into the revered star, as well the surface shows no evidence of scratches which is a common flaw to the series. The reverse offers a final production pure white surface with no print or staining apparent. In conclusion, one of the finest of all Topps Test issued featuring a front line Hall Of Famer offered in MINT condition, can it get any better than this?
