Alphonse R. Lopez, 1977 Hall of Fame inductee, graces the surface of this ’35 Diamond Stars pasteboard. Having apparently just tossed his catcher’s mask to the side, Al prepares to catch a weakly-hit pop-up at or near the plate. This card features spot-on centering and strong NM/MT or better edges, with just a slight touch to the bottom right corner preventing a half-point bump. There is only 1 higher graded copy on record, an 8.5, and I can’t imagine that one looks much better than this.
