The Brooklyn Dodgers were at the height of their popularity at the end of the 1956 season. They has won the World Series the year before and just lost to the Yankees in a tough 7 game series. After the 1956 season, The Dodgers embarked on a three week "Goodwill Tour" to Japan to play exhibition games against the Japanese professional teams. This trip was to enhance relations with Japan, only a dozen years after World War II. All the players made the trip including Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Don Newcombe, Pee Wee Reese, Don Drysdale, manager Walter Alston and even owner Walter O'Malley. The trip was sanctioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was indeed a big deal. This 7.25" x 9" photo derives from the estate of Al Campanis, long time Dodger executive, and depicts the visiting Dodger team mixed among their Japanese opponents. Their exists a small one inch crease, and the verso has remnants of paper in all four corners where the photo was mounted. A fantastic baseball photo with historic prominence. Letter of Authenticity from PSA indicating this is a Type 1 First Generation photograph.
