This is an unbelievable jersey worn by Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque. He currently holds the record of most goals, assists and, of course, points of any blue liner in the history of the sport, and played for the Boston Bruins for 21 seasons. He then took his skills (and experience) to Colorado, where he helped lead the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup championship in 2001, his first Championship. This 1996-97 gold, mesh jersey has the mascot logo on the front, the first time in their history the mascot adorned the front. The beautiful gold color is bordered along the sleeves and the bottom edge with a black trim design, giving the jersey a "fierce" look. The front also has the captain's "C" on the left breast. Both sleeves have Bourque's number "77" in black tackle twill, stitched with a white inset, while the shoulders have the team name "BRUINS" stitched on a white name plate. Bourque originally wore #7 for the Bruins, the same number Phil Esposito made famous. When the Bruins finally retired Big Phil's number, Bourque took his own #7 jersey off at the ceremony, revealing to everyone his new jersey number. The back has "BOURQUE" displayed on a gold nameplate across the top with the number "77." Both the name and number are in black tackle twill, similarly stitched with a white inset border. On the outer reverse tail is the NHL and STARTER emblems, while the inside the bottom tail is a tag reading "OFFICIAL BOSTON BRUINS 1st SET 1996-97 SEASON." The jersey shows great game use, with various stick and burn marks on the front and both sleeves, and a small unrepaired tear on the right sleeve. One reason why hockey jerseys are the best of all four sports is they usually have that "something extra", meaning the fight strap. The jersey has a Velcro Button style fight strap. Simply a tremendous jersey from one of hockey's all time greats, an eye appealing display of Bruins colors and symbols. Imagine walking into the TD Garden to watch a Bruins game while wearing this jersey. You would be the talk of the entire section. LOA from The Spirit of the Game (a recognized hockey jersey dealer) and Mile High Card Company.
