While Willie and Mickey were accumulating Hall of Fame credentials for their loyal fans in Manhattan and the Bronx, respectively, the borough of Brooklyn proudly trotted out an icon of their own, none other than "The Duke of Flatbush,” Edwin "Duke" Snider. With 5 consecutive 40+ home run seasons and World Championships in 1955 and 1959, the fan frenzy for Snider was comparable to that of the great Mays and Mantle. Majestically pictured on his ultra-rare mid-series issue from the 1953 Bowman Color set, Snider smiles confidently, bat gripped tightly in hand, as if to say "Your next!" with his icy, penetrating stare. Suitably centered while slightly favoring the southeast corner, the extremely clean surface, save for one small print mark on the Duke's Brooklyn cap, is layered with a heavy blanket of like-new gloss that radiates from the surface. Each of the four corners meets or exceeds the NM/MT designation sparingly distributed by PSA. One of the most significant cards from the 1950s and an important cornerstone to an advanced collection!
