Up for grabs is a divine example of what we've always believed was one of the coolest baseball cards ever produced, a seemingly pack-fresh copy of Mickey Cochrane's outrageously colorful Diamond Stars issue, brand new to the hobby and very recently graded NM/MT 8 by the pre-war specialists at SGC. MINT to GEM MINT bottom corners join NM/MT+ to MINT top points to support perfect GEM MINT edges around a seemingly perfect image that mildly favors the top border and reveals just a few scattered NM/MT marks in the lower periphery, without question the card's only features that come anywhere close to approaching its extremely conservative NM/MT assessment. A recent addition to the Tigers after Connie Mack disassemble the A's in 1934, Gordon Stanley "Mickey" Cochrane, namesake of Mickey Mantle, shows his new uniform before an almost psychedelic red and yellow baseball diamond. As Detroit's player-manager, Cochrane would lead the squad to the World Series in 1934, losing to the St. Louis "Gashouse Gang" in 7 rough and tumble games, and then again in 1935, beating the Cubs in 6, just another reason why we think this shimmering Diamond Star, produced primarily in these two years, is so darn cool!
