Graded PSA 9 MINT. Here's an extremely prominent card from the 1950s that rarely surfaces for sale in MINT or better condition, a near perfectly centered 1957 Topps example of "The Chairman of the Board," Edward Charles "Whitey" Ford, also known simply as "Slick." With his relatively standard fastball, "Slick" had to be crafty on the mound in order to make the Yankees' "Big Three" into the "Big Four" in 1953, and then to move from number four in the rotation all the way up to number one by the end of 1954 (on a team, mind you, that had just won the last five World Series in a row). With no sales of a comparable example of this coveted '57 key card in nearly two years, and with just a handful of sales over the course of the last decade, who knows what this hobby masterpiece with bring at auction this time around? And with only 10 others like it and none graded higher from well over 850 submissions, your guess is as good as anybody else's! Incredibly well-centered and, if you can believe it, bordering on GEM MINT! Indeed, strong MINT+ corners and edges at all points but the sufficiently MINT top left apex encompass an impressively clean image for the issue beneath a resilient layer of still-shimmering gloss. A masterpiece? Fuggedaboutit! What we've got here is a true MONSTER piece in even the most advanced of Yankees collections. Truly spectacular and very strongly encouraged!
