Here is a T206 Ty Cobb "Bat Off Shoulder" variation sporting a Piedmont ad back and a fairly deceptive grade of EX+ 5.5 from PSA. Borderline MINT right corners combine with sufficiently NM/MT left corners to support what appear to be clean MINT edges, though the card sits a little too snugly within PSA's case to thoroughly examine the edges. So we have a strong NM/MT to MINT perimeter encompassing an equally impressive and perhaps even superior NM/MT+ to MINT image, so where do the PSA graders get off calling this an EX+ 5.5? Some mild but tolerable self-evident staining or light PD in the side obverse borders reduces what would otherwise be a legitimate candidate for NM 7 or better. Tough price to pay for what, under magnification, looks like just some faint print dusts that probably wouldn't even be noticed had it found a home on the interior image instead of on the white borders. No puffery here folks, just a super sharp example for the grade!
