Offered is one of the hobby's highest graded examples of Jimmy Foxx's elusive 1937 O-Pee-Chee stand-up issue. Only 19 copies have ever surfaced at the Newport Beach grading firm, with the top three finest of those 19 grading in the NM/MT 8 category. A relatively crude black and white issue, the 1937 O-Pee-Chee set, designated V300 by Jefferson Burdick in the American Card Catalog, is essentially an amalgamation of the period's most popular bubble gum issues: 1933 DeLong, 1934 Goudey, and 1934-36 Batter-Up. With just two competitors in its class and none graded higher, this "Double X" is so incredibly scarce and seductive that we'd easily rate it "XXX" were there just a few more pixels present on the lower left corner. Under high magnification, the corner in question doesn't really appear to be damaged; it's just missing a few microscopic rows of diagonal print dots that compose the grey obverse backdrop. The surface also appears to be NM/MT, but every other feature boasts strong NM/MT+ to even MINT qualities. Extremely scarce!
