Before there was "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys, there was Don Meredith. Known as "Dandy Don" due to his fun loving, gregarious nature, Meredith extremely popular with Cowboy fans, even though he did not lead his team to a Super Bowl. Meredith's Cowboys lost the two NFL title games to the Green Bay Packers which led to the first two Super Bowls. Mereidth's popularity centered on his toughness as a player, and that he was a local product, playing his high school, college and pro football career in the Dallas area. The circa-1966 game used, white-mesh jersey has Meredith's number "17" on both front and back in blue tackle-twill, stitched in the familiar Cowboy "rope stitch" pattern. Both numbers are also stitched on the outside of the knit shoulders, just above the two-blue stripe sleeves. 1966 was the first season the team narrowed the stripes to two per sleeve. Inside the collar is the "Southland Athletic Mfg. Co." tag with the attached "SIZE 46" tag. The jersey exhibits nice game use including several dirt marks along the front. A great gamer from the first quarterback to lead the Dallas Cowboys to the playoffs. LOA from Grey Flannel Collectibles, Inc and Mile High Card Company.
